I saw a headline the other day that I found disturbing: Satanic Temple’s ‘Weekend of Blasphemy’ Sells Out in Boston (breitbart.com). The “Witches Night” themed event was advertised as “a weekend of blasphemy and remembrance in Boston.” The Satanic Temple is touting it as the largest Satanic gathering in history. Participants are encouraged to dress up as witches and demons and attend talks on such things as satanism in rural America, reclaiming the trans body, and self-pleasure. The event will be held at a Boston Marriott on April 28-30, in case you want to avoid Boston that weekend.
You may also want to avoid Chicago this weekend due to this headline: St. Patrick’s Day Parade, river dyeing kick off weekend’s revelry.
The news highlights many other examples of the exaltation of demons. You may have seen (or chosen to not see) Rihanna’s Super Bowl Halftime Show last month. Last week Ben Shapiro explained that Satan worship is all the fad right now. Ben Shapiro: Satan is so hot right now – Grand Forks Herald | Grand Forks, East Grand Forks news, weather & sports.
It may seem odd to us that revelry and Satan worship are celebrated these days. Paul told Timothy that he needs to understand that the last days will be difficult because people will be out of control, self-indulgent, haters of God.
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. 2 Tim 3:1-5 ESV
What can we do to protect ourselves from the increase in wickedness.
Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. Heb 3:12-14 ESV
Our instructions are to be careful, seek accountability, and stand firm in the faith. Since sin is a deceiver, we should stay away from sinful celebrations.
